I’ve had it with these motherfucking snakes in my motherfucking yard!
Filed under Life, Photography |There is a python(s) that live in the area behind our house, and the disappearance of cats over the years means that it preys on cats, which is not its traditional food. Tired of the python threat and having a close encounter with one in our yard at 7 p.m., in which it fled and broke a part of our fence, we decided to call in the experts.
From the Forestry department!
One of our cats went missing a few days ago and mom called the department – they came when it’s dark, scouting the yard and the swamp behind. The trap was set on Thursday with an old chicken as the bait. On Friday evening, the bait appeared to have been taken – the wire’s taut and there was no clucking sound from the chicken. This morning the Snake Man came to check it out.
He was heading towards the fence when he spotted a baby python up on the starfruit tree.
And caught it. The bag doesn’t look strong enough…
Murphy’s Law applies – it escaped half a second after this photo was taken and hid in the bushes at the base of the starfruit tree. Told mom to flee – she’s afraid of snakes, and having her dance around while I was trying to keep it from escaping is distracting.
Here you can see the dead chicken. It was regurgitated by the python, but somehow wound up headless. The trap can be seen on the left. Poor thing laid an egg beforehand – we left it there.
Finally the baby python emerged from the bushes. I shouted that it was trying to escape to the fenced and the forest beyond, and Snake Man told me to kill it. I didn’t shout or anything, just hacked at it twice. The first attack almost severed the tail and dealt a mortal blow, the second is mostly superficial.
It tried to escape into the cats’ cage, of all places. I held it down with the machete until the Snake Man could get to it. As I have said earlier, the blow was mortal and it bled to death inside the sack – a cat food sack.
He set up a new trap, this time using nets and placing the hook under the wings instead on the feet. Buying the bait tomorrow since the shops are closed.
Hopefully we can net the python and end this once and for all (oops, forgot the offsprings)
In other news, dad broke the 58mm UV filter with the lens and camera still attached to it. Apparently the contents of the camera bag disgorged itself (much like the earlier python) and it was by chance that my primary lens escaped destruction.
Gee thanks, dad.

The bait
Filed under Life |…appeared to have been taken. The line has moved and looks tight. Snake Man will drop by tomorrow at 0930, we’ll see then.

Driving with three cyllinders
Filed under Life |Original: ‘Dancing with tears in my eyes’ by Ultravox
Driving with three cyllinders
Twelve hundred CCs and a wobbly car
Driving with three cyllinders
Fouled spark plug was the cause afterall
It’s late and my car is at the garage
It’s hard to get around without a car
The man at the garage keep on saying
More money, more money
Driving with three cyllinders
Twelve hundred CCs and a wobbly car
Driving with three cyllinders
Fouled spark plug was the cause afterall
Finally I got my car back again
But why only three cyllinders firing
The door won’t even close properly
More money, More money
Driving with three cyllinders
Twelve hundred CCs and a wobbly car
The car is a high priority
The car I really must take care
Driving with three cyllinders
Twelve hundred CCs and a wobbly car
