Application of corrugated fiberboard in real life

TORONTO (Reuters) – Two men and a woman who used an ordinary cardboard box to break into over 200 Toronto area fast-food joints were caught by lucky timing, police said on Friday.

The trio arrived at their target with an oversized cardboard box, which they propped up against the restaurant’s front door. One person hid in the box and used specialized tools to break into the restaurant, while the others stood guard with a police scanner and two-way radios.

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

I was trying to install VirtualBox when this dialog box popped up:
ctx107396-1.gif

The problem? The older version of VirtualBox which is no more on my PC is not, repeat, _not_ in the Add/Remove Programs list! Maybe just a minor hiccup, but when you removed the old version and in the process to install the new version and you can’t, there is no work done (cue Physics).

Monkeyed around with Google, specifically entering ‘Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel’ into the search engine.

I got this link in return. Windows Installer CleanUp Utility! Whoever haven’t heard of that, please don’t raise your hands. The installation is so fast that one wonders if the program was installed. Anyway, I ran it, removed VirtualBox 1.3.2′s entry from the list, close the program and ran the installation for VirtualBox 1.5.2.

This problem seems to apply to programs that use MSI to install themselves.

Sighting

There was someone whom I took notice of when I first entered the campus some time ago. I haven’t seen her for a long time, and I honestly thought that she had left. That is until I saw her exiting the lecture hall at ground floor.

The petite figure, long hair, white jacket with black lines.

It couldn’t be anyone else.

There’s Something Rotten in the Campus

The latest round of Student Council ‘election’, if one can call it that, has left certain quarters unsatisfied. The main complaint is that the whole business was conducted in an almost silent manner. There were notices and announcements online, but they were made in such a way that it did not attract much attention. The second main complaint is that out of the four major posts in the Council, three were filled by members of the same club while the remaining one is not a member of any. Concerns have been raised that the Council is now no more than a second branch of the same club, and there are fears of decisions biased in that particular club’s direction. The fact that they won uncontested shows both the students’ apathy over their campus life and also the manner in which the election was conducted: silent.

An effort is underway to protest this chain of events. A petition that calls for a review into the election process and if possible, the results, has been started. The things that are needed now are signatures, and most important of all a line-up of alternative candidates.

Another matter that I wish to raise here is the blackmailing of students by no other than the Administration itself. Some weeks ago there was an announcement online that students are required to take a particular survey lest their results will be withheld. This announcement disappeared under mysterious circumstances only to resurface later with references to the holding back of the results omitted. The drive to make the students fill up the forms are quite aggressive, with Admin Staff stealing class time to take students to the computer lab for the sole purpose of the survey. While it was not present in the announcement online, students are warned about what will happen should they fail to complete the survey: the holding back of results.

I wonder what will Melbourne say if they hear of this. Better yet, someone should record what the Admin Staff is going to say about the results. They blackmail us, we do the same to them. Fair and ^2.
