Burials at the old graveyard were discontinued given the time and effort that one must undertake in order to reach the cemetary itself. Imagine going down the muddy riverbank at low tide carrying the coffin. There is an older cemetary upriver which was previously accessible only by going up the river itself. With the construction of the Gedong – Gumpey Road, the cemetary was given a new lease of life. The cemetary is also where Datu Bandar Muai, one of the Hulubalang Tujuh was buried.
